Dress a child initiative - what you need to know 158

Yesterday, I travelled to Ariaria market in Aba to buy some sewing supplies and consumables for our Dress-A-Child Project.

The journey to the market and back was one hell of an exciting adventure and I loved every bit of it.

Behind-the-scenes, a lot of persons worked so hard to make this trip a success and I'm so grateful for everyone of them.

The greatest support came from my home neighbors. Those guys literally carried this adventure on their head. From mobilising a driver to pick me up at 2am to calling every hour from 1am just to ensure that I did not sleep off and miss the bus.

I got to Aba in good time. Met with really helpful, really amazing traders.
We do not tell enough, the stories of how hospitable and inherently kind Nigerians truly are.

Can you imagine that the first trader I bought stuffs from handed over her shop momentarily to her little niece and then took upon herself the task of acting as my tour guide, taking me round the market to where I could get the best deals on sewing consumables.

The bus driver on my return journey?... Small but mighty. Very caustic in a very humorous way.
Guy drove off and left one passenger behind at the Odukpani gridlock at midnight, throwing all the passengers into deep sadness and mourning.

In all my waka, I've found that nothing bonds a people more strongly than a sense of shared struggles
You can't imagine the celebration in the bus, when this passenger, after so much hassles, jumping a truck and a sienna, found his way back to our bus.

We arrived Calabar at 1am. All the passengers resigned to passing the night at the park at stadium. As I picked my luggage to leave, the driver expressed worry and pressed on me to hold on for at least 3 hours.
According to him, Christmas is near and the boys are not smiling... He wouldn't want any passenger of his to be dispossessed of her phone or any other prized possessions.

I simply dismissed him.
Baba... Na my area be this ohh... And I am the Queen of the Boys. They know me... And I know them. Nothing go do anybody.

Like this, we are set to commence sewing of the dresses.
You should see the stuffs I bought. Really beautiful and very colorful.

You should see the dresses we will make....

Every child should be able to tell one story of a happy childhood memory...

This Dress-A-Child Project will be that story.

Give us sewing consumables... Zippers, thread, appliques, underlinings, interfacing etc

Give us cash... We estimate that it will cost us N5,000 to dress one child.
You can decide to dress one, two, five, twenty, fifty or 100 children as you're able.
